With FITCuba 2023 quickly approaching, the Cuba Tourist Board hosted a lunch conference at Cibo Wine Bar in Yorkville to start spreading the word about all of Cuba’s fabulous travel offerings. Travel to Cuba is back to 80% of its 2019 level, and efforts are underway to achieve 100%, or better, of where it was. Cuba is truly a unique destination unlike any other with plenty of new developments regularly to benefit travelers. For example, a system of digital tourist visas is in the process of being implemented, with October as the goal for visas going digital. Cayo Largo is being converted to become the nation’s first Smart destination with efforts to make it all digital for elements like bookings and check-in/check-out. "We are very excited to be here," said Keith Henry, the president and CEO of the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC). "ITAC, sort of, facilitates marketing and development of Indigenous tourism in the country. We work with partners like Indigenous Tourism Manitoba and Travel Manitoba to help raise the level of awareness of Indigenous tourism opportunities here in Manitoba. It’s official: Cuba’s Int’l Habanos Festival resumes after pandemic

The 23rd Cuba's International Habanos Festival took place recently at Havana's Palace of Conventions after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That Festival kicked off with the opening of the trade fair with some 260 exhibitors from 10 countries. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel as well as other senior government officials attended the event. "This trade fair will be an ideal platform to boost technical and commercial exchanges among companies, suppliers and the public attending the festival," said Rodrigo Malmierca, Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment. In total, some 2,000 people from across 100 countries are participating in the festival, according to organizers. Habanos Festival Maritza Carrillo, deputy president of Cuban cigar company Habanos S.A, told Xinhua that the tobacco industry has gained more significance in Cuba with the decline in tourist arrivals caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s official: German tour operator reaches Cuba’s heritage city

PJ urges Caribbean to help rebuild Africa’s tourism industry

Former Prime Minister P J Patterson has called on the Caribbean to offer training and technological support to African countries in helping to rebuild their tourism industry. Patterson was delivering the keynote address during day two of the Global Tourism Resilience Conference at the Regional Headquarters of The University of the West Indies, Mona, in St Andrew on Thursday. According to Patterson, the tourism industry has always been seized of the need of continuous training and retraining of the workforce to address the need of travellers. However, he noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has put an even greater pressure on the sector. “The industry experienced a heavy loss of workers during the extended period of lockdown and travel restrictions.
