Dominican Republic seeks tech boost for Caribbean connectivity

Dominican Republic seeks tech boost for Caribbean connectivity In a landmark address today, Vice President Raquel Peña called on the countries of the Greater Caribbean region to leverage aviation technology to enhance air connectivity and create robust communication networks. These efforts, she emphasized, will promote the flourishing of communities in various dimensions, including food security, commerce, social interaction, culture, and intellectual exchange. Highlighting the region’s deep historical and cultural ties, Vice President Peña noted that the Caribbean identity has been firmly established for many decades. She pointed out the geographical proximity of the territories, which, despite the short distances, face significant challenges due to a lack of direct routes connecting the various destinations. This results in multiple connections for short-distance travel and high airfares. “This event marks a historic occasion as it is the first time that both government and private sector representatives from across the region are meeting on such [...]

Disney Cruise Line’s Lookout Cay is a cultural departure from Castaway

Disney Cruise Line's Lookout Cay is a cultural departure from Castaway Colorful crepe paper fluttered like feathers on the edges of costumes as about a dozen Bahamians clinked cowbells, banged goatskin drums and paraded through the center of Disney Cruise Line's newly opened private destination. In a departure from its Castaway Cay private island, which focuses on make-believe and Disney themes, Disney Cruise Line's newest destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, embraces the culture of the people who live here by showcasing their unique music, art and designs and their annual national celebration called Junkanoo. That cultural expression was woven throughout Lookout Cay. Sometimes it was through architectural structures inspired by Bahamian seashells. In another case, the Rush Out Gush Out water play area was inspired by shacks where locals dream up Junkanoo parade costumes to don in the wee hours the day after Christmas and on New Year's Day. "I'm [...]

This destination has become one of the most important for Cuban tourism in recent years. In a report by Excelencias magazine, Luis Ernesto Camellon Curbelo, Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) sub-delegate in the region, noted that the indicators to date are encouraging.
