“Baila en Cuba” presents its academic program

The “Baila en Cuba” (Dance in Cuba) international event, organized by the Paradiso Cultural Tourism Agency, presents its academic program in collaboration with the Faculty of Dance of the University of the Arts. From November 16 to 21, Havana will become the epicenter of Cuban popular and folkloric dance with these and other activities designed to fully explore national music and dances.

This educational event brings together professional dancers, instructors and dance lovers from around the world to offer an in-depth immersion in emblematic genres such as casino, timba, cha cha cha, son, mambo, rumba and the reparto style. The program is designed for beginner and intermediate levels, with theoretical and practical sessions that explore the technique, history and cultural identity of each style.

For six days, participants will enjoy Casino Workshops, where they will learn partner techniques, figures, turns and their application in the rueda de casino. They will also be able to learn Lady/Men Style, which is based on practicing and perfecting technique and style to develop the dancer’s expression and confidence. In this case, the physicality of Cuban cabaret and popular Cuban dances are incorporated through the execution of basic steps, coordination work, improvisation and cultural context. Participants will also be able to enjoy master classes on dancing to the Yoruba, rumba, pachanga, timba and reparto rhythms, taught by renowned maestros of Cuban folk dance.

Each day includes artistic presentations, a technical assessment, a group lunch and intensive sessions tailored to each participant’s level. The event culminates with a Timba Caliente dance couples competition, celebrating creativity, technique and a passion for Cuban dance.

Participants will also be able to attend evening shows including live performances by iconic Cuban popular music groups in the famous Salón Rosado “Benny Moré” at La Tropical, and enjoy themed nights with live music and DJ sets.

“Baila en Cuba” is not only an academic experience, but also a space for cultural exchange, where movement becomes a common language.
