During the supervisory visit, José Ignacio Paliza confirmed that the airport will initially operate with a limited number of flights that will gradually increase as tourism and passenger demand expand in the Cabo Rojo area. He also noted that the first hotels in the emerging tourist destination are projected to open later in 2027.

Meanwhile, Víctor Pichardo reported that the airport’s key infrastructure is in advanced stages of development, with the runway already entering the paving phase. Authorities also reviewed progress on the control tower, taxiway, drainage systems, passenger terminal, and other complementary facilities within the airport complex.

Project engineers stated that although recent rainfall caused minor delays in some construction activities, the overall schedule remains on track to meet the planned operational date. Prior to the inspection, contractors and technical teams presented updates on the development of each phase of the project.

The Cabo Rojo International Airport is considered a key component of the Dominican government’s tourism development strategy for the southwest region, aimed at transforming Pedernales into a major tourism and economic destination in the Caribbean.
