Punta Cana Airport prepares for record winter arrivals
Tourism entrepreneur Frank Rainieri highlighted the strong performance of the Dominican Republic’s tourism sector, noting a significant increase in flight arrivals during the winter season. Speaking at the UN Tourism International Conference on Tourism Cooperation, Rainieri emphasized that Punta Cana Airport is on track to set a record for arrivals in 2025. To accommodate the growth, five additional emergency positions are being constructed to ensure smooth airport operations by year-end.
Rainieri stressed that the country’s tourism growth is now reaching levels where aiming for 10% annual increases is no longer realistic. Instead, the focus is on sustaining growth while enhancing the quality of services. He noted that the rise in high-quality hotel developments will boost revenue, strengthen the economy, and continue attracting international tourists.
“Maintaining the flow of dollars into the country is crucial,” Rainieri said. “It’s not just about growth percentages, but ensuring that tourism generates more income and keeps the Dominican Republic welcoming visitors successfully.”
