Nordwind Airlines connects Holguín and Moscow

The Frank País International Airport in Holguín experienced another day of jubilation with the arrival of the inaugural Nordwind Airlines flight from Moscow. The arrival was celebrated with the traditional welcoming water arch salute. This operation marks the resumption of direct connections between Russia and this northeastern province of Cuba.

Managed by the tour operator Pegas Touristik, the flight route reopens the doors to Russian tourism in one of the most important tourist destinations in the Caribbean archipelago. The connection, which began flying in 2017, was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic but today returns to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Nordwind Airlines, renowned for its experience and quality, is a Moscow-based charter airline that began operations in December 2008. It currently operates from Sheremetyevo International Airport and is recognized for its partnership with Pegas Touristik, which organizes complete tour packages, including flights, accommodation and destination services.

In January 2025, at the International Tourism Fair in Spain (FITUR), the Cubanacan Hotel Group and the Cubanacan Travel Agency announced the signing of an agreement with Pegas Touristik to bring Russian tourists to the largest tourist destination in eastern Cuba.

A few days ago, shortly after Hurricane Melissa hit the region, Cuban Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos García Granda, announced that the flight, originally scheduled for October 29, would arrive when conditions were guaranteed to allow travelers to enjoy all the destination’s attractions.

With this inaugural flight, Holguín’s position as a gateway to international tourism in the Caribbean is strengthened.

The Cubanacan Travel Agency shared images on social media of the warm welcome organized for the passengers of this inaugural flight.
