Italian chain Domina signs contract to manage hotels in Cuba

By Daily Pérez Guillén

The Italian chain Domina Hotels Group will begin managing three hotels in Cuba, as announced at a press conference during the VII edition of the Gaviota Destinations Tourism Fair.

Carlos M. Latuff, president of the Gaviota Tourism Group, confirmed that this company will manage a hotel in Varadero and two others in Havana. Local media showed images of Ernesto Preatoni, its president, during the signing of the contract with the Gaviota Tourism Group.

“We went to visit some of their hotels to understand what we are joining,” Latuff commented in response to a question from TTC, and he evaluated the facilities of the Italian company positively. “They have a very large club that moves their clients, and our intention is to be members so that Cuba can be part of that rotation. The proposals they are making to us are very interesting, and many important new features will be brought,” he revealed.

With this agreement, Gaviota seeks to diversify the management of its hotels and regain the Italian market, which in recent decades has been among the top sources of tourism to Cuba, especially to destinations such as Havana, Varadero, and Cayo Largo del Sur.

In 2018, 177,652 Italian tourists arrived in the Caribbean archipelago, a figure that reflects sustained interest in the destination. Between 2022 and 2023, a gradual recovery began, with an increase in flights from Italy through the airline Neos.

The Italian tourist is considered an excellent consumer of the Cuban tourism product, fond of culture, history, beaches, and direct interaction with the people. They tend to visit various areas of the country, which promotes regional circuits and excursions to heritage and natural destinations like Viñales, Trinidad, and Cienfuegos.
