Cuba to host the 3rd International Seminar “Challenges of Tourism Law”

Between December 9 and 11, Havana will welcome experts from around the world who will come together in a key forum to consolidate Tourism Law and seek international codification under the leadership of UN Tourism.

In a press release published on its official website, UN Tourism states that the event will address issues related to digital transformation, artificial intelligence, new platforms, accessibility, sustainability and foreign investment in tourism.

Continuing the work of previous editions, the seminar will analyze, from a legal perspective, the challenges facing the tourism industry as the first quarter of the 21st century draws to a close. It will promote the consolidation of Tourism Law as an autonomous branch of law and the urgent need for international codification under the guidance of the international organization.

Aimed at ministers, government officials, representatives of international organizations, academics, business leaders, and specialized lawyers, the seminar will address critical issues such as the growing influence of large digital platforms on tourism marketing and the need to regulate them to protect consumers.

The event agenda will also include topics related to the legal challenges of short-term vacation rentals, the impact of artificial intelligence on tourist protection, the regulation of “smart destinations,” and new regulatory frameworks for sustainability and accessibility.

The event has been organized to generate concrete guidelines for regulatory frameworks at both the national and international levels, evaluate instruments such as the International Convention on Tourism Ethics and the Tourist Protection Code, and foster professional ties between universities, public administrationsand business stakeholders. The event also aims to increase understanding of Tourism Law as an essential tool for addressing the sector’s disruptive changes and contributing to peace and cultural exchange among peoples.

For Cuba, it is an opportunity to reiterate its commitment to legal innovation in the sector. Professionals in this field will engage in dialogue to define the regulatory foundations for the industry in the coming decades. The event in Havana is presented as a unique forum for analyzing global best practices and developing coordinated responses to the challenges of accelerated digitalization, which is transforming the global tourism landscape.

UN Tourism, the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, and the University of Havana are organizing the international seminar.
