UN Tourism strengthens tourism measurement in global economic system Closing this gap requires globally agreed standards. At the 57th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission – the world’s highest authority on official statistics – UN Tourism advanced efforts to strengthen how tourism is measured within the global economic system, helping governments and businesses rely on clearer, internationally comparable data. Secretary-General of UN Tourism, Shaikha Al Nuwais said: “Tourism is one of the world’s most dynamic economic sectors, and it deserves data systems that reflect its true scale and impact. Punta Perdiz: the kind blue where the Caribbean dives in peace

Punta Perdiz: the kind blue where the Caribbean dives in peace By: Rachell Cowan Canino/ Photos: Abel Rojas Barallobre Arriving at Punta Perdiz, a corner of the southern coast of Matanzas, is to encounter a landscape worthy of the word beauty, a place where national and foreign visitors agree on the dominant harmony and admiration for the enchanting blue of the Caribbean Sea waters. It is nestled in the heart of the Ciénaga de Zapata, the largest wetland in the insular Caribbean and a biodiversity sanctuary that holds three important management categories: Biosphere Reserve, Ramsar Site, and National Park. Unlike other diving destinations that require long boat trips, here the underwater paradise literally begins from the shore. Punta Perdiz is one of the eleven environmentally certified diving spots in the Ciénaga, and it is home to one of the best-preserved seabeds in the country, with a large coral reserve, seagrass beds [...]

NBC ‘Girls Trip’ turns Ocho Rios into global stage for Brand Jamaica

NBC ‘Girls Trip’ turns Ocho Rios into global stage for Brand Jamaica The spotlight of American morning television landed squarely on Jamaica’s north coast as NBC’s Today spinoff “Jenna & Sheinelle” brought its “Girls Trip” broadcast to Sandals Dunn’s River, delivering two days of sunshine, star power, and strategic tourism promotion. Transitioning from the broadcast’s impact to the venue itself, for Sandals Resorts International Chairman Allan Stewart, the choice of venue was intentional and symbolic. “Sandals Dunn’s River is what we call Sandals 2.0… a real, true reflection of what Sandals represents today in 2026,” Stewart said. “It’s an amazing representation of the soul of what Jamaica is… I couldn’t be happier.” Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism Ed Bartlett and Sandals Dunns River Resort Executive Chairman Adam Stewart on set at the NBC TV live broadcast in Ocho Rios in March 2026.Photo by Anthony “ER Guru” Turner Moreover, as highlighted by Jamaican-born, [...]

Tourist’s numbers and spending; on the rise International tourism in Mexico kicked off 2026 with a higher influx of visitors and a slight increase in spending during their stays: a combination that confirms the sector’s vitality and points to a recovery that is now firmly established following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. American Airlines Could Restart Venezuela Flights by April 30

American Airlines Could Restart Venezuela Flights by April 30 The first United States airline to restart service to Venezuela in seven years could do so by the end of April. American Airlines said in an update on Thursday that it plans to offer one daily nonstop flight between Miami (MIA) and Caracas (CCS) aboard an Embraer 175 regional aircraft as soon as April 30. However, the carrier is still awaiting final government approval and security clearance, which will determine the official restart date of its route. The Texas-based airline is the first U.S. carrier to announce plans to reenter the Venezuelan market following the Trump administration’s military operation in the South American nation and capture of its leader, Nicolas Maduro, in January. The airline noted that it is working with both the Department of Transportation and the Department of State to relaunch its Venezuelan operations. Five ideas for exploring caves in western Cuba

Five ideas for exploring caves in western Cuba Some of Cuba’s largest and most spectacular caves are located in Pinar del Río, a region well-known to travelers for its extraordinary natural beauty. Exploring its caverns means discovering the intrinsic secrets of Cuban nature, making the province an essential destination for those seeking intense emotions and authentic contact with nature, as it boasts the largest cave systems in the country. Caving tourism has significant value in several areas—economic, educational, scientific, and environmental—as it can generate income for communities through job creation (guides, transportation, lodging, food), as well as foster the development of tourism infrastructure in rural or less developed areas, while allowing visitors to learn about geology, cave formation, subterranean biodiversity, and natural history. Furthermore, it facilitates the exploration and study of underground environments that may contain key information about past climate, biodiversity, and geological and paleontological processes. Here, the Sol de Cuba team [...]

The Christ of Cuba, standing on a Havana hilltop

The Christ of Cuba, standing on a Havana hilltop A collaboration by Yoanna Cervera/ Photo: Abel Rojas Barallobre An image surprises the curious passerby: suddenly, it seems as if they are in Rio, very close to that famous sculpture. But no, we are in Cuba, although also close to a Christ, but in Havana. The same figure with open arms, the same protective gesture; but the sea seen from below is different, the heat is different, and its history is different too. The Christ of Havana peeks out from the La Cabaña hill, right at the entrance to the bay. Rather than at the top of a mountain, it stands on a hilltop overlooking the Malecón seawall and the historic center of the Cuban capital. With its 20 meters of white marble, it looks imposing, as if it might start walking at any moment. The story of this sculpture is curious. [...]
