Iberojet focuses on more frequent flights to Punta Cana and Santo Domingo Senior executives of Iberojet-Portugal, a company of the Spanish tourism group Avoris Corporación Empresarial, and the Dominican Republic’s ambassador to Brazil, Patricia Villegas de Jorge, held a working meeting in which a possible critical route for more frequent flights to Punta Cana and Santo Domingo was outlined. With this, the Iberojet team is working on new strategic alliances to expand its presence in the Dominican Republic with a greater number of flights throughout the year. In this regard, the ambassador explained the strong need for the Dominican community and Portuguese citizens, as well as those from other member countries of the European Community, to have the facility to make direct trips from both Lisbon and Porto, considering the Dominican Republic’s position as a logistics and tourism hub in the region. Tourism Ministry invests RD$600 million to revitalize Boca Chica beachfront Tourism Minister David Collado announced a RD$600 million investment to revamp Boca Chica’s beachfront and surrounding infrastructure. The plan includes rebuilding the boardwalk from San Andrés Beach to Boca Chica, paving nearby streets, and upgrading the drainage and wastewater systems. A local tourism cluster will also be established, and training programs for youth in hospitality will be implemented in partnership with universities. Vendors will receive stainless steel equipment for their booths and access to preferential loans through PROMYPIME to help grow their businesses. Work is set to begin in 90 days, following a technical survey. Collado emphasized that the project will bring Boca Chica’s beach up to the standards of the country’s top tourist destinations. Beyond the Beach: why job quality in Caribbean Tourism matters

Beyond the Beach: why job quality in Caribbean Tourism matters Tourism is more than an industry in the Caribbean; it’s a way of life, an economic backbone, and, for many, a ticket out of poverty. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, tourism contributed an average of 11.4 percent to the region’s GDP in 2023 and supported over 2.75 million jobs, accounting for 15.1 percent of total employment in the Caribbean. It also plays a pivotal role in driving employment for women and youth. In St. Lucia, for example, more than 55 percent of young workers (ages 15-24) are employed in tourism. Women in the Caribbean account for 57-70 percent of the workforce in accommodation and food services, well above the global average of 54 percent. Despite its scale, the sector does not always live up to its potential to provide high-quality, inclusive, and resilient employment. Although the number of [...]

Rediscover us: Why the future of Caribbean Tourism is Caribbean people

Rediscover us: Why the future of Caribbean Tourism is Caribbean people “The Caribbean is not just a destination—it’s a mirror. In rediscovering its shores, we rediscover ourselves: our resilience, our rhythm, and the roots we forgot we had.” When was the last time you truly explored the Caribbean—not as a tourist, not as a bystander, but as a regional citizen reclaiming what is rightfully yours? We have spent decades looking outward. For too long, we’ve been conditioned to see the world beyond our shores as the only place worthy of our attention, our ambition, and our vacation dollars. Miami became familiar. London, aspirational. Toronto, comforting. Meanwhile, the islands around us—the ones sharing our history, our bloodlines, and our struggles—have become foreign. Now, with tightening visa restrictions, entry denials, and deportation threats looming, the message from the Global North is increasingly clear: we are not as welcome as we once thought. What [...]
