Abinader declares Dominican Republic the top investment destination in Latin America

President Luis Abinader affirmed that the Dominican Republic is now the best place in Latin America to invest, during the inauguration of the W Punta Cana, Adult All-Inclusive resort—a USD 160 million project developed by Marriott International, Grupo Puntacana, and Mac Hotels. The president emphasized that this investment strengthens tourism and the national economy, highlighting that the project began amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abinader noted the growing presence of North American hotel chains, positioning the country second in Latin America after Mexico in U.S. tourism investment. He announced that 15,000 new rooms are under construction nationwide, with 6,000 expected to open this year, generating thousands of quality jobs and fostering economic stability. The new resort, located in Uvero Alto, features 340 rooms and suites, 12 restaurants, and a luxury AWAY Spa, offering an exclusive experience focused on music, wellness, and contemporary design.

Industry leaders praised the government’s strong support for tourism. Frank Elías Rainieri, president and CEO of Grupo Puntacana, credited the administration for its consistent backing of the sector, calling tourism “a model of leadership and resilience in the region.” Tourism Minister David Collado celebrated the arrival of W Hotels as a milestone for the country’s all-inclusive offerings.
