Yuluca Alliance leads sustainable tourism revolution in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Yuluca Alliance officially launched following the First GSTC Latin American and Caribbean Summit in Santa Marta, Colombia, held in May 2024. Supported by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), this collaborative effort unites the region’s nations under the shared vision of advancing sustainable tourism practices across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Named after the indigenous Kogui word “Yuluca,” symbolizing unity and a connection between humanity and nature, the Alliance reflects the cultural diversity and collective strength of the participating countries. The Executive Committee, comprising representatives from these nations, is committed to tackling sustainable tourism challenges by fostering collaboration.
Key meetings of the Executive Committee took place on August 15th and September 17th, defining the Alliance’s goals, scope, and methodology. The Yuluca Alliance (AYLAC) is built on the idea that sustainable tourism requires coordinated efforts to protect the shared natural and cultural resources of the region. The Alliance focuses on addressing climate change, fostering tourism that benefits local communities, and enhancing the cultural and environmental well-being of the region.
As a major initiative, the Yuluca Alliance aims to reshape how tourism is managed, ensuring that sustainability, cultural preservation, and community engagement remain at the forefront of the region’s tourism experience.
