Tourism in Cuba is improving

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Alejandro Gil Fernández, has just announced before the Cuban Parliament that tourism continues to be the fundamental way to boost the recovery of the economy in Cuba.

In a speech before a parliamentary session in the minister, he explained that the situation of the economy in the country, ratifying the general objectives of the economy plan approved in December for this 2023, decided to continue quickly recovering the tourism industry.

He added that at the end of last April, 984,116 tourists had visited the country, which represents 28% compared to the year plan that proposes an arrival of 3.5 million visitors.

With respect to the same period of the previous year, it represents 119% and compared to 2019, the pre-pandemic year, 51.1%.

The economy minister indicated that on May 3, the first million visitors arrived on the island.

“The tourism visitor plan for this 2023 is challenging and it does not depend only on us, but we are on that path because it is essential to accompany and advance the gradual recovery of the economy,” he said.

He also disclosed the main recovering markets are Canada and Russia
