United Airlines end two and a half years of trips suspension to Cuba when a first flight of the company arrived last week at José Martí International Airport from Houston, Texas.

United restored flights to de island after several months of negotiations.

In March 2020 the airline operated 14 weekly flights to Havana  but operations were suspended due to the closure of borders and restrictions on the entry of travelers due to the spread of the coronavirus.

The US Department of Transportation during the government of former President Donald Trump prohibited the commercial flights of American companies to small airports outside the capital.

American Airlines reopen operations in November 3 at Abel Santamaría International Airport, in Santa Clara.

The airline also plans to connect Miami with the destinations of Varadero, Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba.
