Informática 2024: An event for digital transformation

After five days of launching metadata associated with digital transformation, artificial intelligence, 5G technologies, cybersecurity, metaverse, among others, into cyberspace from the Havana International Conference Center and Pabexpo, the 19th Informática 2024 International Convention and Fair concluded on Friday, March 22.
Cuban First Deputy Minister of Communications, Wilfredo González, described the event as “a push to move toward Cuba’s digital transformation,” a process that includes technological changes to boost economic development and meeting the needs of the population.

Called to share knowledge and experiences “For a Digital Society,” more than a thousand delegates and exhibitors from 12 nations gathered in the Cuban capital for five days. Scientific debates, presentations of new technologies, projects and applications occupied the time and space of both venues.

The country’s highest authorities, including President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, as well as ministers, high-level executives and representatives of the diplomatic corps visited the Fair. At its inauguration, in an exchange with TTC, the Cuban president announced that the Citizen’s Portal will soon be accessible.

Digital transformation is a pillar of the government in Cuba, as the president has pointed out, and the authorities of the Ministry of Communications have ratified in their statements. Informática 2024 makes visible “the decision to bring technologies closer to the population and to establish and develop the IT industry, with its most valuable resource: human capital,” the first deputy minister confirmed.

At the closing ceremony, the contributions of organizations and personalities in different areas related to digital deployment in the Caribbean country were recognized. Among those recognized were doctors of science Caridad Anías Calderón, Tatiana Delgado Fernández, Rafael Bello Pérez, Orestes Llanes Santiago and Alejandro Rosete Suárez.

The 20th Informática 2026 International Convention and Fair was also announced, to be held from March 23 to 27 of that year.
