Increases the number of Russian tourists to Cuba

The number of tourists from the Russian Federation who opted for the Cuba destination increased this year by eight percent, as reported today by the TASS news agency.

The communication states that with this increase in relation to the previous year, Russia now occupies third place on the list of countries providing tourism to Cuba.

The note specifies that the commercial director of the Ministry of Tourism of the Caribbean nation, Gihana Galindo, stated that with the opening of a new winter tourist season in Cuba, the flow of vacationers from Russia increases.

«The Russia market for our country occupies third position on the list of the main issuing markets. In 2023 it surpassed its record from 2019 (before the Covid-19 pandemic),” said Galindo.

Now it is around 185 thousand visitors, the board noted when asked if in 2024 this figure could exceed 200 thousand Russian tourists, as the authorities of the Caribbean nation predicted at the beginning of the year, adding that everything depends on the authorization to increase the number of flights between both countries.

He also added that currently among the main challenges of the Cuban tourism sector with respect to visitors from Russia is the training of Russian-speaking personnel.

Tourism is one of Cuba’s main sources of income. As previously reported by Cuba’s National Office of Statistics and Information, more than 112,000 Russians visited the island in the first six months of 2024, the third highest number of visitors.

The first place is traditionally occupied by Canada (577,549 people), the second by guests from among Cubans residing abroad (155,320).
