Flights to Cayo Largo del Sur resume

The first flight of the high season to Cayo Largo del Sur is scheduled to arrive on December 6, as announced by Cubatur Travel Agency executives at the official launch for tour operators, representatives and travel agencies at the Hotel Sevilla, in the Cuban capital.

The flights will run between José Martí International Airport and Baracoa Beach in Havana, with four weekly departures: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. “In the case of Mondays, two flights are planned, since the aim is to promote excursions,” explained Maylin Hernández Milian, deputy commercial director of the Cubatur Travel Agency in the West of the island.

She also noted, “Only 5kg can be carried as hand luggage and 20kg as hold luggage, payments for which will be made through the available e-commerce options or in cash. In the case of children, the ticket price is the same as that of adults.”

Cubatur executives also pointed out that the return journey from Cayo Largo to Havana must be made 72 hours before leaving the country, and the schedule must be confirmed one day in advance.

“For the reservation to be accepted, the client must include information such as name and surname, nationality, passport number, date of birth, pick-up point and a contact in case of possible changes,” the Cubatur representative added.

Within the program offered by the travel agency, there are proposals for excursions and bathing time, with boat rides, snorkeling, natural pools, iguana watching in the natural environment, among other attractive options, whose prices and reservations are available.

The facilities in the area operated by the Canadian chain Blue Diamond will also reopen initially with several of the hotels. According to Jorge Rosales, director of contracting for Blue Diamond, “They are starting to open the Sanctuary, Starfish, Memories, Bella Linda Mar and Villa Marina hotels, and by December 24, the Grand Memories should be open, and then gradually all of them, the dates of which will be announced.”

“We are currently working on the recovery of the area, on logistical assurances. We are making a great effort because we know what this operation means and we have to regain confidence in tourism and especially in Cuba as a destination,” Rosales emphasized.

“December 4 is the new opening with the new flight from Canada, likewise in January we will have an operation from Argentina, and the idea is to recover other markets such as the Italian market, with which we are in negotiations and others in the region that are of great interest,” the Blue Diamond representative in the area of Cayo Largo explained.

According to Cubatur and Blue Diamond, “a continuous operation is foreseen, this flight is here to stay, ensuring confidence in the product and the resumption of operations.”
