In an exchange with the press after touring the International Tourism Fair of Cuba 2025, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, commented that this event, “is a demonstration of the many qualities and potentialities,” of the country.

“Totally innovative. Here we have presented examples of health, community, agricultural and agro-ecological tourism, among others. In addition, circuits have been designed that have a direct impact on Cuban localities, on our geography and on the life of Cubans in their communities,” he added.

He stressed that the concept of sustainable tourism is strongly advocated, which combines economic, social, cultural and, above all, environmental aspects.

According to the president, FitCuba2025 reflects the integration of two fundamental pillars of government management: the digital transformation of society and science and innovation. “Cuban developments to digitize tourism activity have been exhibited here, such as platforms to automate services, hotels and complete tourism products. The innovative capacity of tourism in Cuba is manifested in its adaptability to difficult times, setting new goals, options and visions.”

Díaz-Canel informed that the comfort of some 80,000 rooms in the country’s hotels has been improved, ensuring a more environmentally friendly design.

Meanwhile, Chinese media accredited in Cuba asked the president about the presence of the Asian country as guest of honor in this year’s event. “China has shown its natural beauties, but, above all, in its pavilion the historical and cultural elements stand out, presenting the essence of its civilization in an original way,” he responded.

He described the Chinese market as representing a huge opportunity for Cuba. “Imagine such a large country, with a huge population, historical ties of friendship and a people whose culture and development we admire. The consensus with President Xi Jinping has been clear: China can support Cuba’s development through a growing flow of tourists.”

The Cuban president also thanked the agencies, operators, the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and its embassy in Cuba for their presentation at the event. “Tomorrow, when the Fair opens to the public, the Cuban people will have the opportunity to connect with Chinese culture through this space.”

Regarding the complex economic scenario Cuba is experiencing, he acknowledged that it has been hard to recover tourist activity after the pandemic. “In the first place, there is the recognition of the blockade and the toxic media campaign that exists, as well as the pressures not to visit Cuba. This is part of the aggressive US policy, a very perverse policy, because by cutting off tourism, people are prevented from traveling to another country, and cultural ties and links between nations are hindered.”

FitCuba is the most important professional tourism event organized each year in the Caribbean archipelago.
